This is an excellent book for members of the fire
service and for individuals interested in the law as it pertains to
today's fire service. It is informative and easy for the law layman to
read. It describes the law and provides relevant and up-to-date examples
of the concept presented. This book is a definite must for fire
personnel.

Our Fire Department has been using [this]
textbook for senior officers for training since late last year. The
senior officers felt that the Legal Aspects of the Fire Service provides
excellent information and we have included it in our junior officers'
training program this year. The officers felt that your book makes
the legal process clear and it takes away a lot of the mystery out of the
many legal matters to which we are exposed. Thank you for authoring this
book.

I started to read the book last night and I am very
pleased with the fact that it is written in plain language to help the lay
person understand the basic principles of law. In quickly glancing through
the pages, I noticed that the book offers an overview of major legal areas
such as criminal law, tort, contract, civil rights/con law etc. There was
one particular paragraph that caught my attention and for which I
wholeheartedly concur:
"By learning about the law and instituting those programs, forms and procedures which reduce the chances of getting into legal trouble, and training those under your supervision regarding their legal responsibilities you will minimize your liability risk."
I think that this summarizes the reason why I decided to go
into the legal professional and more specifically persist in fostering an
academic/legal training career. I do not believe in the litigious
aspect of my profession, but share Larry Hogan's view that like medicine,
one needs to be educated, trained and take preventive measures in dealing
with the
law.
